NURSES
Foreign trained nurse is allowed to work temporarily at hospitals in Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSAs) under H-1C visa. However, the maximum number is 500 per year. Other visa category is H-1B, TN-1 or H-3 in several situations. All foreign nurses are subject to language tests, such as TOEFL or Michigan English Language Assessment Battery exam, in order to seek temporary or permanent admission into the US. Also, passing the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS) exam or holding a full and unrestricted license to practice is required. For immigration, registered nurse falls in the Schedule A pre-certification category, which labor certification will be filed with immigrant petition to CIS and no recruitment activity is needed.
